McRom-abee
Three days, three visits from GOP presidential nomination front-runners. A quick recap:McCain had veterans' support. Romney had a fairly strong showing that included FMU students. Huckabee had the star power of "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and, of course, Chuck Norris, the subject of innumerable "facts" that are a pale imitation of jokes from the "Bill Brasky" sketches on "Saturday Night Live." Oh, and star of "Walker, Texas Ranger" and such movies as "Invasion USA," which I highly recommend. Now that's a funny movie!
But I don't think the celebrity endorsements necessarily translate to voter attention; I'd say McCain's crowd was similar in size to Huckabee's. (McCain did have NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough on his side, though.) Sometimes it seems as though a celebrity's fame can eclipse the candidate.
In any case, do your homework and decide who you think is the best candidate. If that person is a Republican, make sure you vote in tomorrow's primary; if he or she is a Democrat, make sure you vote a week from tomorrow.
In other business (a line that frequently appears in my city and county council articles), this blog will see some rapid-fire posting again Monday, when I'll be at the Democratic debates at the Palace Theater in Myrtle Beach.
