Manners lost: A story of rudeness in America
Anyone with half a brain can see that manner are on the out in this country. Little did I realize that even, here is this supposed bastion of polite behavior, people are becoming increasingly rude and judgemental of others.I cam to this realization this morning as I was driving up Irby Street, listening to Eagle 92.9, when I heard a teaser for an upcoming story. It said a woman in New Jersey was about to win the "Big Dummy Award," for something to do with looking for love on-line. Now, I thought she had done something actually stupid, like met a man in a private place without knowing anything about him other than a screen name. But no, she won the big dummy award simply for creating this website.

When I heard the rude radio host (I never did hear him say his name, so sorry guys) say she won the "award" just for trying to find someone special, it didn't really set well with me. No, I've never tried on-line dating. I met my husband the old fashioned way: his mom went to church with my aunt, leading me to become friends with his sister and then to go out with him. : ) Pretty typical, boring stuff, but it worked for us. Now who am I, or that radio host to judge this woman for feeling she has exhausted her opportunities in the local scene and deciding to go a little further. Don't people do this all the time on sites like EHarmony and others like it? Why does it make her any different because she used the skills she had available to her as a marketing professional to get the word out and try something different? I think she should be commended for refusing to believe that she either has to be alone or suffer through another date with so and so's "sweet" nephew (read: lives in mom's basement) with "a great personality" (read: picks his nose at the dinner table) in search of her Mr. Right.
So, that said. I think the "Big Dummy Award" should go to the radio host who tried to belittle Neenah for her decision. Or better yet, just save the rudeness for Dumb Crook News. At least those are actually funny and often deserving of the rude comments made about them.

Sounds more dim witted than rude. I sympatize with people that are dim witted. Sometimes they just can’t help it. Be patient with them. Rude people are not worthy of your time. Ignore them and never confront them. It drives them crazy.
