Let’s just play ball
I’m not here to talk about the past.At least, not the recent past.
When it comes to Major League Baseball, I’m sick of it.
From the steroids/HGH issue to the “he said, he said” hearings to the constant talk about tainted records, I’ve had my fill.
I didn’t watch a second of today’s Clemens-McNamee sparring — and I don’t feel like I missed anything.
I got the highlights off a TV here in the office, and there was nothing surprising or shocking in what I saw.
In the end, what will it matter? They can’t go back and replay the games or in any real way undo the past — although apparently they can “misremember” it.
What I want from baseball right now are some games.
I want to remember why I loved the game as a kid.
I want to remember playing Little League — well, minus the part where I wasn’t very good.
I want to remember riding to Phillies games with my dad, listening to oldies on the radio and hoping to see a winner.
I want to remember riding to Double-A games in Reading with my Uncle Bob, hoping to catch a foul ball.
Most of all, I want to remember loving the game.
But it’s a little hard today — what with all the Congressmen involved.
So I’m not going to talk about the past unless we’re talking baseball circa the late ’80s.
Back when I loved the game unconditionally.

Over paid babies. I quit with MLB after the last strike. College baseball is much more entertaining. I love the LLWS. That is playing baseball for the pure love of it.
