Knights peaking at the right time

Pitching, defense, timely hitting.
West Florence's baseball team had trouble with one and sometimes all of the above aspects of the game during the early part of the season.
But like they seem to every year, they've started to turn things around. Two wins against Dillon, another against Wilson and now a 7-1 victory over South Florence have the Knights looking at potentially making the playoffs again.
Pitching, defense, timely hitting were all there on Friday night. Spencer Matthews pitched lights out, and Cody Ritch hit one of the longest home runs I've ever seen on a high school diamond.
But I can't leave out the Bruins, either. Both teams combined to play flawless defense, and save two pitches to Ritch, both Matthews and Spencer Jordan had fine outings.
South Florence took it to the Knights earlier this season, but as coach Kenny Gray said, they just didn't hit the ball against West. Too many popups on too many high pitches.
Region 6-4A is a gauntlet, and whichever team makes it out could surprise a few teams in the playoffs.
Just ask South Florence's opponents from last year.
