Knights face uphill battle in Region 6-4A
West Florence has a tough road ahead. After starting the season 5-0, the Knights have now lost back-to-back games, including their Region 6-4A opener. West's offensive output in those two games: 10 points - a field goal against Wilson and a late touchdown against Conway.
That's bad news for the Knights. Their next two opponents, Sumter and Hartsville, lead the re-gion in points scored. And as West found out Friday against Conway, a great defense can only keep you in the game for so long.
The Knights managed just two first downs in the first half and had just over 100 yards total for the game. Quarterbacks Jimmy Howell and Paul Pizzuti were intercepted three times and com-bined to complete just four passes.
After years with Wesley Snow putting up video-game numbers in the passing game, the Knights have become a predominantly running team. But as coach Trey Woodberry said after the game, teams are going to keep stuffing the run until the Knights show they are capable of making plays in the passing game. That will be difficult with two banged up quarterbacks.
Both Howell and Pizzuti have knee injuries, and after switching starters twice already this sea-son, it looks like Woodberry and the Knights will have to play musical quarterbacks for a while.
