It’s official
Well, it's official, in more ways than one. Gay and lesbian couples can be married in the state of California. The amendment that allows them to marry will also give them the same spousal protection as heterosexual couples such as insurance benefits, next of kin notification and other things hetero couples take for granted as their irrefutable rights. How do you guys feel about this? Do you think this trend will eventually work its way across the country into the South?

I’m not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that, to quote Seinfeld, but I think it’s about time gay and lesbians were given the legal recognition to be married like heterosexual couples. I find it disturbing that people put so much negative energy into rejecting gay marriages, which are based on love, when there are so many other injustices in the world based on hate, violence, neglect and lonliness.
Gays and lesbians work, contribute to society and pay their taxes like heteros and should have the same irrefutable rights, benefits and protections.
The South will probably be the last place it will ever be accepted though, and I hate to say that. It will come eventually, given time
