It’s official

Well, it's official, in more ways than one. Gay and lesbian couples can be married in the state of California. The amendment that allows them to marry will also give them the same spousal protection as heterosexual couples such as insurance benefits, next of kin notification and other things hetero couples take for granted as their irrefutable rights.

How do you guys feel about this? Do you think this trend will eventually work its way across the country into the South?

I’m not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that, to quote Seinfeld, but I think it’s about time gay and lesbians were given the legal recognition to be married like heterosexual couples. I find it disturbing that people put so much negative energy into rejecting gay marriages, which are based on love, when there are so many other injustices in the world based on hate, violence, neglect and lonliness.

Gays and lesbians work, contribute to society and pay their taxes like heteros and should have the same irrefutable rights, benefits and protections.

The South will probably be the last place it will ever be accepted though, and I hate to say that. It will come eventually, given time smile

A lot of my friends are gay...but I don’t agree with the marriage part. sorry, ally…
Jamie, all this time, which hasn’t been long, I thought you were a male. I saw your picture, which is nice.

To this day..I have never crossed paths with a “gay redneck”..so my neighborhood will likely be a safety zone..wink

Now the way I look at this is that I live in my own lil’ world..things there work for me..things in my lil’ world may not work for others..but they dont have to exist in my lil’ world...they can go off and exist elsewhere..and do whatever works for them..and I’ll respect that…

I think that people are pretty much the same everywhere..not just California..people here have the same feelings and desires and will likely be following suit…

I suppose if I didnt already have this redneck Harry Potter image in full swing..I could see myself going back to college to earn a degree and become a gay hairdresser...I hear they make the big bucks and all the beautiful women love them to death..smile

Very good points Allyson. There is a lot of hate out there for people to be so up in arms about this.

Bewmson, you say you don’t agree with allow homosexuals to marry. May I ask your reasons regarding it?

Wolf, that is a very tolerant viewpoint you have on this. Live and let live, I take it?

Posted by  on  06/18  at  09:28 AM

And yes, Bewmson, I am a female. I get a lot of emails addressed to Mr. James Durant… : )

Posted by  on  06/18  at  09:30 AM

Becky, a.k.a. “bewmson”, I thought you were more liberal about gay marriages. You do have lots of gay friends… none of whom you’d support if they got married to someone of the same sex?

Posted by  on  06/18  at  09:57 AM

Did any of you read George Takai’s speech at the courthouse yesterday? It was too funny. He said he hopes “equality will live long and prosper.”
I don’t know if any of you are trekkies or even just relatively familiar with Star Trek, as I am, but that was both hilarious and sweet at the same time.

I wouldnt have it any other way Dear..

It aint my world..I only have a portion of it..so why try to rule it all?..

If those people are truly happy...I could never stand in there way..

..same as I wouldnt want anyone standing in the way of me being married to the girl of my dreams...my wife..smile

If that dont get me “Husband Of The Year”..nothing ever will..wink

Posted by  on  06/18  at  10:19 AM

Awwww, Wolf, underneath that crusty ol’ redneck exterior, you’re a sweet, crusty ol’ redneck… : )

Posted by  on  06/18  at  10:25 AM

Well, I guess I’m from the old school. I just don’t think people of the same sex should be married. I don’t know why I feel that way...I just do. Maybe because I was raised a southern Baptist. LOL
Ally, I don’t know if I would go to a wedding if 2 of my gay friends got married. It’s just not right. I did laugh at the 2 older women who finally got married. They just didn’t seem gay.
Now because I said these words, one of my kids will turn out gay...just kidding, I hope. grin

Posted by bewmson  on  06/18  at  11:31 AM

Whether you agree with it or not, it is sure to be a hot topic for years to come. If my son comes to me one day and tells me he is gay, I’ll still love him. He’ll still be the same boy I raised. But I better still get grandkids. If I don’t, that’s cause for some harsh words! : )

Sometimes I wish I had a wife...not for sexual reasons, but just someone that would work full time, clean my house, cook my meals and help take care of the boys smile

Posted by  on  06/18  at  11:55 AM

Hey, my husband does all of that...LOL just kidding, but he does cook. You response reminds me of my favorite joke...the frog who met a girl in the forest and he told her if she kissed him, then they could get married, and she could clean, cook, etc...that night, as she was eating frog legs, she said, I don’t f...ing think so....
Hope I don’t get kick off for telling that. grin

I don’t really care one way or the other. Got bigger and better things to worry about. The only thing I can say about gay marriage is this.
How the hell did Ellen De Generes end up with Portia de Rossi? Man, she’s hot.

Mr. Mookie, the same phenomenon happens all the time in heterosexual relationships. Older, successful man or woman gets younger, much more attractive, partner. Power trumps looks for some people. Personally, I don’t think that’s the case for these two.

Perhaps Ellen’s sense of humor was what won de Rossi over? She is pretty funny. Some people choose to focus on what makes that person who they are, rather than if the clothing they wear makes them hot or not. That’s my interpretation of it, anyway.

Here’s the solution to homosexuality.

Now, Mr. Mookie. That’s ugly. We’ve been having a nice friendly discussion aobut this. As you can see on that video, his mother apparently messed him up really well by trying to “spank the gay out of him.”

Perhaps instead, try reading this story from a reputable new source about the brains of both heterosexual and homosexual people.

Tat guy is seriously messed up. LOL

Posted by bewmson  on  06/18  at  05:05 PM

“Perhaps Ellen’s sense of humor was what won de Rossi over?”

Let’s test that theory..go home and get intimate with your spouse...right in the middle of it..jump up and do that lil Ellen dance..start telling jokes and laughing real loud…

I dont think that “sense of humor” thing is gonna hold water…

It is all about the sex...I couldnt be more happily married and even I wanna have sex with Ellen…

I wonder if that qualifies me for any bi-sexual discounts anywhere...wink

Surely before you posted this blog..Mookie and I had to cross your mind a time or two at the very least..*LOL*..

Posted by  on  06/18  at  06:08 PM

Spankings, sex and frogs… I knew this blog would get interesting.

Posted by  on  06/18  at  08:16 PM

LOL Allyson…

You know, Ellen is cute. I just can’t figure her out. I can’t figure out any of my gay friends. I have several that have been married and have kids, and have left their husbands for women. Am I missing something.

This is an interesting blog. wink))

Posted by bewmson  on  06/18  at  08:20 PM

Go give it a try an report back to us.
Remember. Pictures or it didn’t happen.

Posted by  on  06/19  at  08:56 AM

I disagree, Wolf. I think sense of humor is a very important part of a relationship. It’s laughter that helps get you through hard times.

I’m sure Ellen is different at home than she is in public, but that kind of funny has to carry over into a love of life.

My own husband is hilarious. It was his sense of humor and love of life that won me over. Now almost 10 years later, all he has to do is look at me with that twinkle in his eye and I’ll start laughing.

I’d bet good money that their household is a happy one.

Becky, Maybe your gay friends were missing something important in their relationsships with their husbands and decided to look elsewhere. Their elsewhere just happened to to another woman. Possibly a friend who turned into something more?

Mr. Mookie, stop being lascivious! : )

Posted by  on  06/19  at  10:01 AM

A sense of humor is an important part of a relationship..but it is a small portion of what makes a relationship work...the same as sex is just a small portion..

I would find it impossible to define one thing that makes a relationship or marriage work as well as it does...it is a combination of humdreds of things that keep it alive..

I’m glad it was Mookie who was being lascivious..that saves me from having to look that word up...wink

Posted by  on  06/19  at  10:20 AM

hundreds...not humdreds..

I have been reading Jackie’s blogs again...and it shows…

She is a bad role model for my spelling efforts....*LOL*..
