It’s a very fair day

It's a great day for football here in Columbia. Early day, but great day.
I always consider these 12:30 kickoffs to be both a blessing and a curse. With such an early start, there's never a problem with deadlines. But when I'm sitting in the press box at 10 a.m., I always think about the stuff I could be doing at home on a beautiful Saturday morning if this was a night game -- you know, mowing the lawn, doing other yard work, or doing important things like playing golf or sleeping.
From reading message boards and just listening to people talk, there are a lot of fans who feel the same way, and many of them who would rather not have to fight the normal game traffic plus State Fair traffic to get to a 12:30 kickoff.
It's eight minutes or so before kickoff and most of the fans are in their seats. There's still a trickle of fans coming across George Rogers Boulevard from the fair grounds. It looks like it will be a pretty good crowd, but there will still be plenty of fans who have come disguised as aluminum bleachers for this homecoming game.
Vanderbilt is capable of upsetting the No. 6 Gamecocks, and sometimes with these early games, the crowd isn't into it as much as it would be with a later time. So, it could be interesting.
Check back after halftime for an update and my take on how things went in the first half.
