I hope yours is a happy Mother’s Day
Celebrating what might have been a good occasion when first thougth of, but that has since turned into a marketing holiday, such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparent's Day, etc., can be tricky.Unmet expectations ruin any day, but when expectations are heightened, and they are subsequently unmet, the let down is even harsher. Do what I do: Don't expect anything, and you'll never be disappointed. You may occasionally be surprised by what life tosses at you, but you'll rarely be disappointed.
Mother's Day, Father's Day, and the list goes on, can be a harsh day if your mom or dad has recently died. If you're still grieving, it's difficult to be "happy." If you have the misfortune to have horrible parents, and unfortunately many do, then there may appear to be little to be "happy" about.
I hope yours is a happy day, Mother's Day, or otherwise, whether you're working or off, surrounded by family and friends or totally alone. My hope for you is that you exceed someone else's expectations and bring a little joy into their life. Just because this day offers limitless possibilities and the weather should be fine.
And I know you've heard these a zillion times before, so what's one more ...If reading any one of these brings a sliver of a smile to your face, it'll be a minute or two worthwhile. Maybe your have your own saying that brings a smile that you'd like to share...
Things my Mamma taught me ...
1. My mother taught me to appreciate a job well done:
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning."
2. My mother taught me religion:
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
3. My mother taught me about time travel:
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"
4. My mother taught me logic and reasoning:
"If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."
5. My mother taught me irony:
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."
6. My mother taught me about anticipation:
"Just wait until we get home."
7. My mother taught me that wisdom will come:
"When you get to be my age, you'll understand."
8. And finally, about justice:
"One day, you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you."
