I agree with Chris on this!

Summer is a state of mind. More than a timeframe on a calendar with a specific begin and end date ... summer is a mood, mindset, growing season. And it's here!

Summer is a verb: to summer at ... as in, when school is out, many from the Pee Dee summer at the beach... and school for many, if not most, is out. Over. Finito. That's also summer: freedom ... an end if not a break from the usual mundane, routine responsibilities. Summer is reading late into the night and sleeping in later than usual, and getting up earlier than usual because you're too excited to waste the day ...

WBTW TV13's metereologist Chris Still recently posted his blog about summer, saying its UNoffcial, but summer is here. I agree with Chris on this! I concur completely: It's here! It's summer.

As Chris explains, it's not so much about the day's highs, as it is the night's lows. So, though the calendar may say summer starts on June 21, summer started much earlier this month, about six days ago. That season between spring and autumn, from June solstice to the September equinox, has begun. It is the middle of the warmer half of the year. It is summer.

With our five 90-plus degree days in May, and now our overnight low temperatures in the 70s, it's just plain summer in South Carolina. We know it's summer because we see more and more naked feet hanging out of passenger windows in vehicles heading south and east.

So, if you haven't already, take out your tank tops and clean off your flip flops, enjoy and let the heat begin! It's summer.
