There’s still hope for snow fans!

There has been a lot of talk the past several days (mostly my fault I have to admit) that we may get a little bit of snow Thursday night. Well, it still looks like that could happen.

After a slightly warmer day Thursday with highs in the upper 40s, another arctic cold front will plunge south through the Carolinas Thursday night bringing with it a chance of snow showers Thursday night and more arctic cold for the weekend.

Before you get too excited about the snow, this storm system will be coming from the north where it is very, very cold, but also where there is very little moisture available to make precipitation. It will also be a very fast moving cold front, so any snow that does form will not last very long, and because of the lack of moisture, likely not very heavy. But, before you lose all hope, there is another factor that will work in our favor: the ground temperature. Because it has been so cold of late and because it will be cold enough that we will not see rain first, the ground will be cold if not frozen. This means that it would take less snow for less time than it usually does before it begins to stick.

So what's the forecast? I do think we will at least see a few flurries Thursday night as the cold front moves through. As far as measurable snow, there's about a 30% chance some areas in the News 13 viewing area could get a light dusting to around an inch, but if you're a snow lover like me, that's a better chance than usual, so we will take it!
