Hitting the Lincs - Aberdeen Country Club

This week we take a look at Aberdeen Country Club, the Tom Jackson designed course on Highway 9 in Longs.

Highway 9 sometimes gets overlooked as a center for great courses... everyone knows about the gems of the South Strand, the strong cluster of courses over the border, and the legendary courses sprinkled throughout greater Myrtle Beach.

But with Long Bay, Black Bear, Crown Park and Aberdeen, it's a stretch of great courses. Aberdeen was in great shape today, and I really enjoyed the layout. Aberdeen is one of the shorter courses on the Grand Strand, which allows for a lot of driver-wedge par 4's. Playing from the white tee's (second from the back) there are no par 3's over 170 yards, and no par 5's over 500 yards. But what the holes lack in length, they gain in difficulty with narrow fairways and bunker protected greens.

There are 27 holes, and we played the "Meadows" and "Woodlands" and while the course snakes through a neighborhood, very infrequently do you notice homes from the golf course. But there are times in which some holes are fairly close together. But that did help my fairways hit statistic, which I don't believe requires that it be the "correct" fairway.

I played with Morning News Sports writer Lou Bezjak, and he had this to add:

"I think was a great course in good shape and good test for any golfer. The water and speed of the greens will definitely test your patience but also make you better."

I'd like to thank Lou Bezjak for making an appearance in this blog.

I'd love to hear about any local courses that you've played at recently, and I'll take requests if there are any you'd like to me to play in the future.
