Hanna Rainfall Totals & Peak Wind Speeds

As of 5:00 Saturday Evening, Hanna remains a tropical storm with 50 mph sustained winds. The storm has increased in forward movement, currently pushing NE at 28 mph. As of 5:00, Hanna was located 100 miles SW of Atlantic City, New Jersey. As it continues to push toward New England, Hanna left the Eastern Carolinas with some significant rainfall totals.

Here are some rain reports from the National Weather Service:
Lumberton 4.6"
Bennettsville 3.93"
Darlington 3.10"
Dillon 6.0"
Florence 4.53"
N. Myrtle Beach 4.28"
Myrtle Beach 4.35"
Conway 4.3"
Marion 8.73"
Mullins 6.19"

We did see some problems with minor flooding as the storm pushed through. The good news is that the fast movement of Hanna limited the widespread flooding visible with Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana and Tropical Storm Fay in Florida. Imagine what the rain totals would have looked like had the storm been moving any slower!

Although not a big of a story as the rainfall, here are peak wind gusts measured Tropical Storm Hanna, also from the NWS:
Wrightsville Beach 72 mph
Wilmington 5 mph
Lumberton 45 mph
Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach 48 mph
N. Myrtle Beach 53 mph

All of these wind gusts are tropical storm force, being over 39 mph. Fortunately, the strongest winds from the storm stayed over open water and spared the Eastern Carolinas.
