Go Tar Heel Blue ... All the way

I’m not bashful when it comes to my favorite sports teams.

You ask me who I like and I’m quick tell to you -- 49ers, Braves, 76ers, Tiger Woods, Dale Earnhardt Jr., the Williams sisters, Panthers, every South Carolina College team, Uconn, and those Tar Heels.

I can’t be objective about this. They signed Michael Jordan from my grandmother’s hometown; all of my close friends are fans, and I’ve been stealing moves from their point guards since King Rice wore a high-top fade.

So after a number of years of filling out brackets that ended “bombed out and depleted,” including an embarrassing loss in last year’s Final Four; Coach Roy Williams and his team are poised for another championship after Raymond Felton and company took the monkey off his back in 2005.

This season is the perfect storm, as the Heels rained on their region foes. After cruising through the first round, UNC managed to efficiently dust off LSU, Gonzaga and the potential top player in the NBA draft out of Oklahoma, Blake Griffin.

Criticized all season for being soft on defense, everyone pretty much knew scoring 90 points per game wasn’t a problem. They shut down the Sooners with just 60 points.

Tyler Hansbrough continues to shake off the critics as the national player of the year, while teammates Ty Lawson, Danny Green, and Wayne Ellington prove that a stock can sore off a simple investment. Lawson has been the difference (20 assists against two turnovers), and everyone on a team loaded with depth has contributed. Thank you Ed Davis.
