From The Comfort Of My Own Desk
I spent some time today with one of our Interactive Media Division folks, who actually has worked for Media General longer than the term "IMD" has been around. At least I think.Anyway, he was showing me how to access video and photos that you, the "clickers," submit to scnow.com. It was a great session, and I learned a lot.
But then he showed me a way I can edit photos, video, and even record my voice right at my computer here in the newsroom.
Now, anyone will tell you that I am the least technologically-inclined person out there. If I am assigned a story, I am more likely to go out, shoot it myself, come back, write it, and then go edit the story on a tape-to-tape editor. I can do it all in no time flat.
But we now have new, tapeless editing equipment that I need to learn if I am going to keep up with the times.
But now, I know how to do it all from the comfort of my (still new) desk chair here in the WBTW newsroom.
It's great!
Just think--we now have reporters who can do their whole job from the field--in a car, in a Starbucks, in their living room--and now I can do my editing and everything right here!
It's a crazy business, one that I do have to keep up with, and one where it's easy to take new technology for granted.
But it's still pretty cool!
