Friday Night Lights

Our fearless sports leader, the one and only Matt Lincoln, put out a departmental e-mail earlier today laying out the plans for this week's edition of The Blitz. In the e-mail, Lincoln wrote, "we welcome Rusty Ray into the (Blitz) family."
It was a heart-warming gesture, one that I will be sure to thank Lincoln for in person.
While it is nice to be appreciated, let me point out that I am no stranger to Eastern Carolina high school football; in the 6 football seasons I've worked for WBTW, this marks the fourth season I have shot Friday night fooball video for the station.
I will also say that in those years, my photography skills have steadily declined. I was last in action in week zero, when I shot the scrimmages at the Conway National Bank jamboree-style event. I felt pretty good about those highlights. They ran a bit too long, but they weren't too bad.
However, there's another reason I am so excited to get out and shoot this week.
In my humble opinion, there is no better way to connect with our viewers than on the sidelines at any of the dozens of high schools we visit, from St. Pauls to Socastee and everywhere in between.
It's great to meet and greet folks at those games, whether it's a fervent supporter of football, cheerleading, or marching band in the stands, or a dedicated EMS or law enforcement worker on the sidelines.
The football action is pretty great, too.
So, if you see one of our many News13 Blitz photographers out and about, don't be shy. Come say "hey!"
Just don't ask if I'm the weatherman!

Who shot this game?  There’s your problem.
