For those who missed it…..
For those of you who might not have followed the Lake View-Chesterfield softball series, you really missed out.I don't believe I've ever seen two more evenly matched teams.
All three games in the series ended in the last at bats, the final in the ninth inning. The first two games were come-from-behind wins, and for the most part, runs were at a premium.
Chesterfield took game one in the seventh inning after a Lake View error opened the door for a two-run rally. Hard way to lose.
Lake View turned the tables in game two. With two outs and Lake View down 4-3, the Wild Gators rallied for two runs to stun Chesterfield and force game three.
Wow.
The final game went to international tiebreaker rules (Each team starts the inning with a runner on second base). I have to say something about this rule. For the regular season, and maybe for the first couple rounds of the playoffs, it's fine. But in a state championship series? I would really rather see the girls earn it the hard way.
Now Lake View was not able to push across a run. Gators coach Chad Huggins made a gutsy call having Kasey Nobles bunt with one out and a runner on third. It didn't work.
I was a little surprised at first, thinking that with one out, all they had to do was get the ball out of the in-field. But Lake View had only one fly ball since the first inning, so it might not have worked out either way. Tough one to call.
Tough way to lose a series too. A little dribbler just slow enough to score a runner from third? Hard way to lose a state championship, but I think Huggins and the Gators won't be away for too long.

Good series. I went home(Chesterfield) for the weekend. WCRE carried the game. We screamed and hollered for our Lady Rams. Really proud of the girls and Coach Gaskins. The guys didn’t fair as well but we’re proud of them none the less. Awesome year for Chesterfield. State championships in football, wrestling and girls softball. The wrestling team is one the most respected group of grapplers in the Southeast. You guys would do good to get up there and show them some love. E-mail me and I’ll hook you up.
