Food For Those Who Fought
I posted a blog a couple weeks ago about some extraordinary students from St. James High School who vow to help a local veterans group raise money to take a trip up to Washington, D.C. to see the National World War II Memorial. Now comes word a local restuarant will help those students by hosting a challenge of sorts.
Accoridng to Lou Krieger, one of the group's organizers, Pizzadelphia, located on Dick Pond Road, will host the event in conjunction with the football game between Socastee and St. James High Schools on October 19th.
The restaurant will host Socastee High on Wednesday night, October 17th, and St. James High on Thursday night, October 18th.
Each night, from 4-10 p.m., Pizzadelphia will donate 2/3 of its sales to each school.
The schools will compete to see who can raise the most money for the group.
Krieger and organizer Jack Platt hope to take as many as 150 veterans to see the memorial on November 10th.
Late last week, Krieger told me the group had raised over $23,000, well on its way to the final goal of over $32,000.
From walk-up donations of $1,000 to generous gifts from local town and county councils, this grassroots effort has taken on a life of its own!
I just got word today that Jody Barr and I are going along with the veterans, and we are so excited to be able to share this experience with so many American heroes, and consider it a privilege to share their experience with our viewers.
We'll continue to keep you updated on these fundraising efforts here on scnow.com and on News13.
