Florence Tonight: The Wings of Spring

Bl'reader,

I was shocked this week. Picking up an old copy of "The Mail", a larger than large tabloid, I saw a picture of Madonna on the front with beefy hams. She was stacked. Biceps, triceps, deltoids, flactoids - it was unbelieveable. Yet, she hides it behind those lond sleeved sweaters and sexy evening wear/performance gear.

It made me start to look at my own hams. They aren't beefy, bl'reader. In fact, they're quite lean, something of a rectangle shape. No curves. No flactoidial development, no bulging biceps. Perhaps a hint from the gods that I should be doing more. Well, I am doing more. I'm making shoedust.

This weekend and beyond Florence is presenting top notch local acts:

Apple Annie's presents Flotown on Friday. Bands usually start around 9 p.m. Show up a little early to secure your seat.

Aroma Underground presents Jeremy Tolin on Friday and Austin Crane on Saturday. Shows there usually begin around 8:30 p.m. Both are acoustic singer-songwriters with unique vocals presentations that owe everything to Bob Dylan's scratchy, messy yet alluring vocals.

Creekratz presents Molehill Tycoons on Friday for all those interested in a little funkity funky funk. Smooth beach blues will come on Saturday with Sea Cruz and Whatley & Hutch bring back the 80s on Tuesday.

J. Michael's hosts their golden boys of improv Rhyme With No Reason on Friday.

Saddle Creek takes the Murphy's Nightlife stage Friday.

Megan Jean covers the Midnight Rooster in Hartsville Friday.

Local flavor Todd Norris creates an atmosphere to dine to at Victor's Bistro as part of their new jazz series. (Norris isn't jazz, but hey, he's got the same feel.)

Don't forget to check 8 Days a week
