Fitting farewell for McKinnon

As a reporter, my job is to stay objective. But it’s hard not to root for a guy like Ren McKinnon.
The Coastal Carolina senior quarterback had his season cut short after he fractured his hip in the opener against Delaware State. McKinnon, who already missed a season because of an injury, would have likely played a big role for the Chanticleers.
But McKinnon got to take one final snap Saturday on senior night in front of the Brooks Stadium faithful. Coastal coach David Bennett let McKinnon take the first snap, which was a handoff to Chris Brown.
McKinnon got a roaring ovation from the fans and then gave way to Will Richardson.
Not many players can go out to roaring cheers from the crowd and it was only fitting McKinnon, one of nicest guys I have interviewed in the last five years, got a chance to experience it.
