Fisch Tank: No Rust Allowed
In two starts Hartsville native and Houston Astros 38th overall draft pick Jordan Lyles is an impressive 0-1. Lyles has been regulated in pitch counts over the two game set, throwing 38 in the first game and 55 in the second. Last night taking the mound for the Greenville Astros in an Appalachian League contest, Lyles struck out seven Johnson City Cardinals. He allowed only one hit and one run, but not a homer. The Astros were shutout rendering Lyles to pick up his first professional loss.Coastal Carolina standout Dock Doyle is also playing in the Appalachian League. The Kingsport Mets catcher and 2008 Collegiate Johnny Bench award finalist is hitting .313 with 3 RBI. The Conway native has been seeing time in the fourth spot of the batting order.
Tommy Baldridge is also residing in his college batting position. Baldridge is hitting .286 for the Gulf Coast League Yankees. In 5 games in the pinstripes the right fielder has a RBI and ripped a double last time out.
Pete Andrelczyk, who was Coastal’s highest draft selection this year in the fifth round by the Florida Marlins, has one save thus far. Andrelczyk earned the save in his first professional appearance against the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League. The right hander has made two appearances punching out one.
Former Chanticleer and Cincinatti Reds selection David Sappelt is in God’s country with the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. Sappelt is off to a hot start. In three games, the centerfielder is hitting .364 with 3 RBI, and slugging .636 including a triple.
Francis Marion’s Justin Green joins Lyles and Doyle in the Appalachian League. Green is playing centerfield for the Bristol Sox, of the Chicago White Sox organization.
But if Sappelt is on fire then Green is an inferno. The Goose Creek native is smoking the ball, hitting .455 with a home run and two stolen bases. In seven games he has collected 22 total bases and possesses a .538 on base percentage.
