Fisch Tank: Moving on up
Here is a look at some of the players that stood out during their time on the baseball diamond from the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.Hartsville’s Jordan Lyles has taken advantage of the pitch count situation the Greenville Astros are holding him to. Through three games in the Appy League he’s 0-1. Now that may sound bad, but it’s really not, he hasn’t received any run production from his team. Last time out he left with the lead before the bullpen blew it. In 3 games of work Lyles has 12 strikeouts in nine innings and has allowed only one earned run.
Another Appy League guy and Francis Marion product Justin Green is the one that has impressed me the most so far in the short season. In 11 games he’s collected 28 total bases and is hitting .359 for the Bristol Sox, including five stolen bases and a home run.
Charles Dock Doyle, the Kingsport Mets list him as Charles, he’s still Dock to us. The Johnny Bench Award Finalist took some time off for the Award banquet. In six games played in the Appy League he’s hitting .320 in 21 at bats with a meager five R.B.I.
Andy De La Garza is also impressive with the single A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, the Augusta Green Jackets. He has 52 strikeouts through tonight’s appearance, in 49.1 innings pitched. His 3.28 E.R.A. is very impressive considering the 31 games he’s scene action in leads the Green Jackets by far.
Former Chants centerfielder David Sappelt is out in the God’s country with the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. For those that have never been to Billings, don’t knock until you try it. It’s awesome out there. And while Sap is getting a chance to see some really cool terrain, he’s dropped off a little since last week. He’s still doing well with a .300 average and 5 R.B.I. in seven games with two stolen bases.
Those are the Fisch Tank Five this week. If I missed someone please let me know. Or if you want to know how someone is doing, please feel free to ask.
