Fisch Tank: Heat is on
Super Regional Day One Recap-North Carolina as I mentioned earlier hit the field at one o’clock this afternoon, to a temperature of 95 degrees. When CCU stepped on the diamond with the black warm ups on, I thought they were nuts. The on field temp at 2:45pm was past the century mark, still it’s crazy in Head Coach Gary Gilmore’s eyes to be playing in their first Super Regional.
The Tar Heels we’re business as usual, getting fielding, hitting and pitching work in. UNC spent the full hour and a half out in the heat, while the Chants brought it in 35 minutes before their slotted time was up.
“I just wanted to get in some B.P,” said Gilmore.
Gilly wanted to keep the guys loose, the only time somebody was getting upset was when senior Derek Martin got on a freshman for not hustling.
No Chanticleers got work in on the pitching end, Bobby Gagg and Nick McCully spent time talking strategy for tomorrow’s game.
While some of the guys were basking in their future endeavors since being drafted. I’ll leave them nameless, you can figure it out. The other’s like Freshman All-American Scott Woodward and Adam Rice worked up one heck of sweat from working hard. Let’s see if it will translate to the game tomorrow.
One other thing I did gather is Coastal is playing it cool despite the hell on earth heat. They also realize what they have to do to once again walk out of Cary with a win.
“We have to get runners on base and when we do, drive them in, said Catcher Dock Doyle. “We can’t leave runners on base and we can’t make errors in the field.”
“It’s a fairy tale, we’re not supposed to be here, and we can’t be anymore loose,” Said Gilmore.
The very important game one gets underway tomorrow at noon, with the ace of each staff taking the mound Bobby Gagg (CCU) and Alex White (UNC).
