Fisch Tank: From the Carolinas to the Pros

Thanks for diving into the Fisch Tank: We’re taking another a look at the top performers’ on the diamond, who are trying to make their way to the Major Leagues.
With a list of over twenty players to come out of the Pee Dee and Grand Strand, it’s the players who just left the area that flourishing the most.

Jordan Lyles: The supplementary first round pick of the Houston Astros is holding his own in the Appalachian League. Despite the 0-1 record still, Lyles is stifling right handed hitters with a .160 average against the former Hartsville standout. His last outing at Bluefield has been the toughest for the Greenville Astros starter, where he went four innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. Lyles still has more strikeouts than innings pitched 14 K’s to 13.0IP.

Charlie “Dock” Doyle: The former Coastal Carolina All-American appears to be on the upswing despite his .250 batting average. Doyle is also in the APP. League with the Kingsport Mets where he had a great game last week at the plate for. Doyle went 2-3 with two runs scored, a base on balls and a RBI. Over his last four games Dock has gone 4-14 with only two strike outs.

David Sappelt: Out west “Sap” is seeing the ball well; the former CCU Big South Player of the Year is hitting .356 with the Billings Mustangs. In the month of July, Sappelt is hitting .458 with a homer and 2 RBI. In the Mustangs last series against Helena, he went 6-13 and scored four times. Sappelt has gone back to being an everyday mainstay in the outfield for the Mustangs. He was platooning over the first couple of weeks.

Pete Andrelczyk: The highest selected Chanticleer in this year’s draft (Fifth Round to the Marlins), picked up a save this past week. Taking his season total to three, with eight strike out’s in the seven inning pitched for the Jamestown Jammers.

Andy DeLaGarza: The former Coastal standout should be getting called up soon. He’s posted a 6-1 win- loss record with a 3.27 E.R.A. DeLaGarza has three saves for the Augusta Green Jackets and 53 K’s in 52.1 IP.

Justin Greene: Greene is another player seeing action in the App. League. The former Francis Marion standout his hitting .333 in 17 games played for the Bristol Sox. His speed has been a huge boost for the B-Sox with 11 stolen bases and 18 runs.
