The Tigers have the burden of their meltdown last season to weigh them down, but more importantly the all likelihood of closing out their regular season against three ranked opponents. My feeling is the team is tired of hearing the cant’s and wont’s and will show up this week to knock Duke around. The Blue Devils have the knack for scaring teams, (not really) but when you have dropped twenty-two straight, come on. Clemson has combined to post 100 points in their previous two games. Tack on to that, the added pressure to win late in the season, and they still have a glimmer of hope to win the ACC, which should give them enough juice to beat up on Duke. My serious interest will rely on weather the Seminoles can resurrect the Chief Osceola spirit and knock of #2 Boston College. If they do, the final three weeks could be fun in Clemson. To South Carolina…DEFENSE…DEFENSE. Especially against the run. Darren McFadden is the real deal and the Gamecocks run stopping ability has been soft lately South Carolina has allowed over two hundred yards rushing in the last three contests. For the Gamecocks it’s simple, stop the run, and stop the bleeding. USC has dropped it’s last two and if they don’t pick up a win this week, they may not win the rest of the year. McFadden has run for over one hundred and eighty five yards both times he has scene USC. You have to make the Razorbacks pass, because they can’t, Arkansas ranks 110th in the nation in passing offense. As far as Blake Mitchell being back, I would expect to see Chris Smelley at some point. Sounds like Steve Spurrier is going back to his Doug Johnson, Jesse Palmer days at Florida.
Coastal Carolina is the hunted, even though they have a losing record. But as the beasts of the Big South, CCU can convince the conference that even when down, they can still be dominant. This of course is all contingent upon beating Liberty on the road. The Flames are expecting a raucous crowd to welcome the Chanticleers. But if they can get something similar to Mike Tolbert’s ridiculous 284 yard game of a week ago, and mix in some Jerome Simpson success, they could win another shootout. If it comes down to a low scoring affair, their burnt!
