Far from a computer nerd
I have never been much of a computer junkie. I have no clue how this box on my desk works. Quite frankly, I am surprised it does. I stayed far away from the computer programming classes offered in college for a reason. However, I was forced to take computer keyboarding in high school- which I was convinced was the biggest waste of my time ever. I should have known how beneficial that 45 minutes of typing random sentences, paragraphs, business memos, and cover letters would end up being. I am one of those people who keeps their fingers on the "home keys". Sure, I make mistakes and take advantage of that backspace button plenty; but I don't have to look at the keyboard as I type. So maybe I remember more from that class than I do from Geometry. Hard to tell. But I digress. My main thought when I started writing this was how dependant on computers I have become. I couldn't do my job without them. From the time I first start my forecast- looking at satellite pictures, radar images, model products- to the building of the graphics that go out on air, I sit in front of the screen more than I see the actual sun or clouds. I am not even sure what I would do if I didn't have them to do my job. I don't remember the days that the weatherman stood in front of an actual map with stick-on suns and clouds. I would be completely lost.
Aside from work, one of my favorite parts of this computer-dependant society is online banking and bill pay. It's exceptionally easy and fast. If you haven't tried it yet, definitely consider it. I type in the bill amount due and when to send the money and my bank takes care of the rest. In a lot of cases, the money can be there the same day. And if necessary, the bank will draft a check and put in in the mail to where it needs to be. I may never buy stamps again. Ok, well I lie. I will probably need them for Mother's Day cards and Father's Day cards. An e-card just isn't the same I suppose.
As far as the Mac vs. PC debate, I won't even touch that. I hardly know the difference. Even so, I do know that public schools did me a favor by teaching me the proper way to type.

Personally all I have owned is PC’s but some of my friends have owned Mac’s.
What I have found about the major differences is that Mac’s are primarily proprietary computers. This means that you can’t just go and buy anything off the shelf and install it. (Example- a Hard drive bought at Walmart) It won’t work. But don’t get me wrong about them. I found that editing a video is easier on a Mac. The only other thing I don’t like about Mac’s is how they claim not to have viruses issues… There are over 500 viruses that only occur on mac’s their solution is to put the restore cd in which wipes your data if you are not careful by selecting alternate install options after boot up. Pc’s on the other hand I have found are general purpose. Most games as well as hardware works on them. That is the major differences I have found with Pc’s or Mac’s. The only other issue is that you have to send the Mac’s off for repair. With Pc’s you can take them to your local computer store to work on them.
