Everybody ready for .... hockey playoffs?
Since the Pride, and to a lesser extent the Cyclones, left Florence, I know hockey isn't on the minds of most people in the area. But for those of us who still enjoy the sport, the Stanley Cup playoffs are it's biggest and best showcase.
And if you have a team in the mix, all the better.
Take myself. Watching the Pittsburgh Penguins run to the finals last year was great, and hopefully they can make another run this year.
Although they didn't win the Cup, Watching Petr Sykora score the game-winner in the third overtime of Game 5 at Detroit was by far one of my best sports memories.
It's a grueling schedule to make it to the finals. Every shot, every hit, every goal seems to carry so much more weight in the playoffs, even during a seven-game series.
While it will never be mainstream again, hockey is still one of the most highly entertaining sports to watch out there.
And it's even better this time of year.

I agree with your statement “hockey is still one of the most highly entertaining sports to watch out there”. I’m highly disappointed we now longer have the support for it that we once had. It will always be my favorite sport to watch. At least we have decent coverage on TV and the NHL station is a major blessing. Know we no longer have a local team but would like to see some coverage of the nearby minor leagues. We still have the SC Stringrays and the Fayetteville Fireantz (in NC) but are in the playoffs! There are more people then you know still interested in hockey and hopefully someday it will return!
