Eight years out of practice…
...and out of shape. I finally found a softball team to play on, but it's made me realized that I'm not a teenager anymore. Now, I know, I know. Some of you are probably saying, "What does this kid know? She's only 25!" But, I really haven't played any kind of sports besides bike riding, swimming and some exercise in seven years and haven't played softball in eight. Although practice has been a lot of fun, I have noticed that my knees and back hurts way worse than they did when I was in high school. And this is after only two practices!
My first practice I did kind of bad. I was nervous, 1. because I really didn't know anyone and 2. I hadn't played softball in eight freaking years! I missed a lot of flyballs and grounders that back in the day I wouldn't have been any problem getting. My batting wasn't too bad. It was the first time I had ever hit slow pitch and needed to be serious about it. When your used to fast pitch, even when it's been eight years, it really takes some adjusting to hit a ball moving that slow. It seems like you have to wait forever for it to get to you. The up side is that you hit the ball like 90% of the time though.
My second practice, I was playing more like myself... I still have some work to do, but I was judging the field a lot better. I still missed some, but I caught a bigger percentage of them. My batting was a little better, too. I started to see better distance with my hitting than the first practice. I believe I did better at the second practice because I wasn't quite so nervous and had gotten to know some of the girls during the first practice.
I'm really looking forward to this season. I've never played in weather quite as hot as this, but I'm sure I will adjust. Our game start June 17 and will likely start at 6:45, 7:45 or 8:45 on the old Air Force base. We are the Lady Lucks and will have kelly green jerseys and black shorts. Come out and watch us play!

Good luck Ashlee. It’ll take some time but it’ll come back to you. Stay hydrated.
