Early impressions of the new football year

After being around high school football from a little more than a week now, there are already a few interesting storylines developing.
First off, Hemingway losing Denzell Wedgeworth is a tough way to start the season. Wedgeworth was the definition of a dual threat, and had the potential to be one of the top quarterbacks in the Pee Dee. Replacing his legs or his arm won't be easy.
Second, it will be interesting to see how Dillon and Carvers Bay come out of the gate. Both the Wildcats and Bears lost a ton of starters from last season. While both programs have always seemed to replace their losses rather easily, just who is going to step up on both sides remains to be seen.
Third, what will Wilson, West Florence, Cheraw and Marlboro County do this season? All appear to have strong teams with a lot of returning players. Cheraw still has a potent backfield, and with three Division I-calibur players, the Knights might have one of the best defenses in the state.
Wilson shocked a lot of people with their title run, and have a lot of the same pieces in place. Marlboro reloaded well and is always a potential championship team.

Heading home to watch my Chesterfield Rams tonight. I’m looking forward to the show Saturday night. Bring it on. It’s time to crack some collarbones.
