Dreaming of a White Christmas?

If you haven't lived in Eastern Carolina very long, you may not realize that white Christmases do happen here! Statistically, there is a 3% chance each year! Sooo, statistically speaking anyway, this means we should have 1 inch of snow or more on the ground for Christmas Day about 1 out of every 33 years.

That would be good news to those of us dreaming aimlessly about that picturesque postcard scene of a white Christmas in the Pee Dee or on the Grand Strand--if the last white Christmas was in 1975 that is!

Unfortunately for us, the last time 1 inch or more of snow fell on Christmas Day was not so long ago in 1989. Going purely by the law of averages, this means you can mark your calendars for Christmas of 2022. How's that for a long term forecast?!?

As for what the weather will be like this year on Christmas? I will see what I can do about beating those odds of a white Christmas this year, but I think there may be a better chance of a warm Christmas. As cold as November was, and as chilly as December has been thus far, we are overdue for an extended warm up. The weather through next Monday (12/15) is expected to continue to be cooler than average overall which leaves just 10 more days until Christmas. I have a feeling that warm up I'm speaking of will be knocking on the door heading up to Christmas, but this is only, shall I say, a "professional hunch" at this point. Let's just hope it doesn't rain like it did in 2005!

I like snow, especially on Christmas, so I'll place a rush order and see if Mother Nature is offering Christmas delivery this year!

Have a great Monday!
