Democrats, Republicans have my attention

I'm no political analyst, but ...

Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin did a heckuva job tonight firing up the Republican National Convention. Some of Giuliani's points were off, though, and Palin's speech -- while delivered very, very well -- lacked substance in respect to her qualifications for vice president. Both were politically divisive and somewhat hollow at their core.

John McCain is worthy and Joe Biden is experienced. With his all-inclusive message, Barack Obama has attained rock star status. Palin moved up the chart tonight by proving she can be a solid voice for McCain and the Republican party. Regardless of what happens in November, they both have bright, bright futures and I think -- I hope -- they can help our country.

I'm consumed by this election more than any other in my lifetime. Becoming a parent since the last election probably has a lot to do with that. More and more these days, I find myself concerned about my family's future and the future of the country. The two are so intertwined. So, with an open mind, I'm looking forward to how this election plays out. I'm looking forward to the debates when we get past these rock concerts and to the meat of the issues the country is facing.

I hope we all can take time to read about the candidates before us, listen to these folks and make informed choices at the polls.
