Debates awaken political interest
Most everyone I run into is buzzing today about the Presidential debates coming to town. With both Republican and Democratic debates coming here, people who want to talk to me about it are pretty open about their political persuasion. Well actually, blatant about it. And they always seem to ask me mine. As a journalist, I don’t openly share my political views, but I do enjoy asking lots of questions about the views of others, and then sharing some observations I’ve made about various candidates on both sides of the fence. It’s kinda fun to watch them compute what I’ve shared, and try to deduce how I might vote. The truth is, for me the jury is still out- way out. Even though I’ve had a good bit of exposure to the candidates, each day brings new answers to questions, new gaffs made by candidates, and new opportunities to get way beyond the political ads and get some new info that might sway my decision. A lot can and will happen between today and the days of the South Carolina primaries (Jan 19 and 26th). A WHOLE lot will happen between now and November 4th when I’ll cast my final vote for the man or woman who will lead the nation for four years (no hints intended here). Even then, I hope you won’t be able to detect in any of my work who it is. But I will continue to enjoy very much the political banter that has gotten an exciting boost from these debates in our town, and I hope it all continues right on through. This kind of excitement gives me new hope for interest in the political process.
