Daytona Notebook - Quick Hit Thoughts from Wednesday
Thoughts from Wednesday:- Jeff Gordon took home a piece of Darlington Raceway today. The chunk was from the finish line that had been recently removed because of the repaving project. Gordon looked pretty excited to have piece of the legendary track, but you have to wonder... Where would a big rock sit on Gordon's mantel? The man has four Cup championships and three Daytona 500 victories. My guess it will probably go way in the back next to his four race championships at Rockingham.
- Rikki Rachtman's hair should be the 8th wonder of the world.
- My neck is all ready beginning to get red... and it's only Wednesday.
- If you go down to the Speedway, you have to check out the dog track. What a show - and I'm not talking about the greyhounds. The real excitement was happening around the betting booths. Degenerate gamblers screaming at little pooches, while their whole paycheck rides on some puppy named "Lildrinkinbuddy". We watched one man who was so angry that his dog didn't win, he started screaming profanity at everyone, and then gave everyone the international sign for "I don't like you very much." He then started yelling at police officers as they escorted him out, telling them how much money he makes, and how he's going to get them fired. One of the police officers just said, "Another fine member of the Daytona Beach community." There's comedy, there's high comedy, and there's a night at the dog track.
- Boris Said's legs must hurt for sitting in that little car for 5 hours.
- National media hates local media. I was huddling around Jimmie Johnson's hauler getting ready for him to come out. A reporter from ESPN was in front, and she turned to a cameraman for NASCAR images who was behind her and said - "If I get in your way, just hit me.... but not hard... haha." Then she looked at me and said, "But not you." I hate national media.

You do know that I could have some real fun with that comment.
A kinder and gentler Mookie, I am.
