COASTAL-CHOWAN SECOND HALF

The clock operator couldn't wind the clock fast enough tonight. But mercifully the Chanticleers-51-0 rout over Chowan is over. It was a good confidence booster for the Chants, who will need it as they enter their final five games. It was good to see reserves like Lake City's Stuart Miles and Conway's Racheed Gause get in and play some quality minutes. It also nice to see someone like walk-on Trevino Pope, a member of the track team who wasn't added to the gameday roster until 5:30 p.m. Pope had 44 yards and was stopped at the 1-yard line but Coastal decided to run the clock out at the end of the game. Guys like Pope might never play again but it's definitely easy to find somebody to root for in a game like that.
Coastal's competition will definitely get tougher next week as Bobby Bentley brings his Hurlin' Hose offense to Brooks Stadium. The Coastal-Presbyterian game should be entertaining and might be the start of a good rivalry in the Big South and Palmetto State for years to come.
