Christmas Tree Timing

So who decides how early is too early to put up the Christmas tree? I know everyone has a differing viewpoint on this. Some people get downright offended if it's up before Thanksgiving. So what's the deal? Is there an official time? After some "thorough" research, I've discovered the answer is... no.
I personally try to sneak in the Christmas decorations a little earlier every year, and hope that no one will object. I even have white lights on the artificial ficus trees in my house year round. I just love Christmas, and the decorations, and everything that goes along with it. I guess a big part of it is being able to see my family, which I don't get to do that often.
So back to the point, the Christmas tree. I want to put mine up now. I also want to put a little tree on my desk...and maybe, just maybe... a Santa or two. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because of all of the controversy over timing.
I'm thinking if I keep putting up decorations early, I'll be one of those people who just has them up year round by the time I'm 70. Then, I think, all of the fun would be gone.
So when can I put up the tree? Should I stick with the traditional Thanksgiving or day after Thanksgiving timetable? It's still up for debate.
I do know one thing, if I went ahead and put up the tree it just might inject a little Christmas spirit into my home, and a tiny amount at least, into my workplace.
And who wouldn't, after all, want an extended period of Christmas cheer?

Patricia, you face an interesting dilemma, one that I have never really considered.  The day after Thanksgiving usually provides a pleasant opportunity to put up the tree and begin decorating, but I can see how some would feel the urge to put them up earlier.  It is becoming more difficult to delay the day with so many stores all decked out by November 1.  Weather is a strong consideration for me.  Colder temperatures always help to enhance that holiday atmosphere, and combined with the initial relentless surge of carols and various music with sleigh bells, it’s almost like Christmas day has already arrived despite being more than a month away.

Personally, I am not at all offended by Christmas decorations being up before Thanksgiving.  Those are the two holidays that my family always has plans to be together for a large meal and fellowship.  I view the two holidays as similar enough to be like “sisters,“ even though one typically has rusty, orange-colored decorations while the other has richer reds and greens.

This reply isn’t very helpful, I understand, but when all else fails, just follow your own heart instead of your neighbors.  The early holiday cheer could prove to be infectious.

Justin, thanks for the comment.
I’ve decided to take your advice and “follow my own heart.“
I’m putting up the Christmas decorations today!
Call me crazy folks, but I’m ready for some Christmas spirit!
