Chick-fil-a Bowl Notebook - Fog-Lanta
All weekend you can catch live updates, as I tell you what I'm thinkin' from Atlanta. I arrived in town Friday morning after leaving Myrtle Beach at 3:55 a.m. Right now, I'm sleepwalking.Spence Makes Up His Mind
Clemson offensive coordinator Rob Spence spent Friday morning's 10 a.m. practice doing what he usually does - preparing Cullen Harper and the rest of the offense for their next opponent. But the day was a different day, as he has decided whether or not to leave Clemson to take the offensive coordinator position at Tennessee. Tommy Bowden said at his Friday press conference that Spence told him whether he would take the job. But Bowden said he will let Spence make the announcement at his press conference on Saturday. Bowden even joked that Spence had broke the news to him before he told his own wife. Spence spent last weekend visiting with Philip Fulmer in Knoxville. Spence was offered jobs with Alabama, Minnesota and the Oakland Raiders last year, but turned them all down.
Bowden Remains Undecided on Vincent
Tommy Bowden said Friday he will make a decision "sometime between now and gametime" whether starting linebacker Cortney Vincent will suit up on Monday. Vincent was arrested for a DUI two weeks ago. Vincent has practiced with the team this week in Atlanta. Bowden says he's continuing to gather information about the incident, but he made sure to point out he's not losing sleep over the decision.
New Auburn Offense a Mystery
Meanwhile, Auburn lost it's offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. Exit Al Borges, Enter Tony Franklin. The former Troy coach was brought in to call the shots for the Auburn O. That's left the Tiger defense watching tape of two different teams to try to get a good feeling what kind of plays Auburn will call. Franklin used a lot of shotgun and 5 receiver sets with the Trojans, and Auburn QB Brandon Cox said they've been running that set often in practice this week. Franklin's offense usually requires a mobile quarterback, which the senior Cox is not.
