Bulldogs defense comes up big again
The Marlboro County public address anouncer said before Friday's game that it was "football weather."And it was -- provided you don't much care for offense.
In a classic defensive struggle enhanced by poor playing conditions, the Marlboro defense made plays when it had to and was pretty much responsible for 13 of Marlboro's 20 points.
Likewise, they kept Lake City out of the end zone, even on three consecutive plays from inside their own 7-yard line, including a fourth down stop at the six-inch line. The Bulldogs also intercepted two passes and recovered two fumbles, one that was returned for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs defense has been dominant all year. The haven't allowed more than 20 points in any game this season, and they've only allowed 25 points total in five region games.
Lake City's defense was equally impressive. After allowing a couple of big pass plays on the opening drive, the Panthers shut down the Marlboro offense the rest of the night. Unfortunatley for the Panthers, the offense was never quite able to punch it through.
Now the playoffs begin, and everyone says defense wins championships.
That's good news if you're a Marlboro or Lake City fan.
