Break out the towel!

The past few mornings have been cold and frosty, but that frost doesn't ever have to make you late to work again! Ok, I'll admit...I forgot we were having frost that first night it got cold so I did find myself scraping my windshield. This not only slowed me down but also made me a couple of minutes late to a speaking engagement. It's also not very fun if you ask me.

However, I learned from my rookie mistake (ok, so I'm too old to be a rookie) and was ready dark and early this morning as I returned to work from hopefully well deserved days off. What did I do you may be wondering? Stick my head out the window until the frost disappeared? Move my car into the garage the night before? Both of those options are certainly effective I suppose, but sticking my head out the window makes for a worse than usual Hair Day Forecast, and I don't have a garage. So, you guessed it...I placed a beach towel across my windshield last night, and WAH-LAH!!! No frost this morning...at least not under the towel.

I've been doing this for about 10 years now, and it works like a charm. I simply place a beach towel on the windshield as soon as I'm in for the evening while it is still fairly warm. It takes all of about 1 minute start to finish and only takes a few seconds to remove in the morning. Just be sure you secure the towel under the windshield wiper blade just in case there is an unexpected gust of wind in the middle of the night. I say 'just in case' because frost normally only occurs on nights with very light, if not completely calm, winds.

If you've never tried this, give it whirl the next time frost is in the forecast and let me know what you think!

Too much work. Crank her up and run the defrost for about 10.  Head back in and catch more of the TV 13 morning news. Back out to a nice warm and frost free car.

What do you do with the soon to be wet beach towel Chris? My cure is to use low temp washer fluid. You may have to hit it several times to get the wind shield completely clear, but at least you don’t have to scrape. I hate scraping.
One thing is for sure, you want the windshield clear. Especially if you are going to be driving east into the rising sun.

I like to sleep late enough for the frost to be completely gone..say 10:30-11:00am…I find in doing this I never even get to see frost..

I have been doing this for years now and have been quite happy with the results..

But because I like Chris and I am easily influenced by role models that wear leotards and a cape..I am going to try the beach towel method..there’s nothing like waking up to a hot towel on your windshield around mid-day..

I’m left wondering if..on the days I aint planning on going anywhere..if the neighbors will laugh at me when they see a beach towel on my truck..

I suppose everything comes at a cost..even something as simple as living a frost-free lifestyle..
