Boogity Boogity Boogity!

Football is done. The Pro Bowl doesn't count.
College basketball is getting good (the ACC is cut-throat as always) but if it's early-to-mid-February, that means its time once again for NASCAR.
For all you who say "no one wants to watch a bunch of rednecks drive around in a great big circle," you can stop reading now.
I personally love the sport, love the spectacle, and I love the sensory overload that is a NASCAR race.
News13 is going to be all over the 2008 Daytona 500, and I am thrilled once again to play a small part in all of this.
This year's race is the 50th running of the race, and we'll be there to catch all of the excitement as the 2008 Sprint Cup Series (yeah, weird, right?) gets underway.
I am going to throw out my predictions at this point. Write them down and call me on the carpet come November.
For the Daytona 500, I think you have to respect Hendrick Motorsports' continued dominance, especially with the new car. With a combined 5 wins among Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., the "dream team" is almost a shoe-in.
But, I think one driver in particular is due for a good finish, if not a win, in NASCAR's crown jewel event.
Tony Stewart lead a good part of last year's race, and was running well in the 2006 race, but crashed in both. He's won the July Daytona race twice, and has won at just about every other type of track on the circuit, so look for Stewart to show up and compete--despite the fact he's running a Toyota for the first time this year.
As for this season's championship race, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have the upper hand, and, if he can remain consistent, so does Earnhardt.
Say what you want about Hendrick, but that crowd has got it together. Money talks, especially in NASCAR, and no one uses it more wisely than Hendrick, whether its testing, or equipment, or keeping people on the payroll.
But I would still like to see good seasons by Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, or even Tony Stewart.
We'll see.
I can't wait for next week and the big race, and let me know what you think about those picks!

Mr. Ray.  I have tried to convince Miss Burkett that I just want to see you, her, and the wonderful Melissa Hoeman on the weekends.  I really only get to watch the main newscast during the days on occasion.  I’m always so busy at that time.  But still, you really do own the FOX show.  I think you should wear a tie though, we discussed it in class, and although we all know you’re trying to be trendy, a tie for a respectable character is needed.  It’s just some advice though.

But onto your post...being in the South, you should LOVE the SEC.  I can understand the like for the ACC, but honest Rusta-roo, we gotta get you liking the SEC.  We’ve got you with the NASCAR, which is great!  But I guess we have to have the Tarps get switched over to the BIG OLD SEC!

Anyway, weekends....think about it!

Which class is discussing my neckwear? This I find interesting.
The FOX big-wigs, and our boss, advise me to “lose the tie.”
Check out FOX Charlotte’s newscast pieces online if you want to see why.
I am not saying it’s the be-all, end-all of local news, but I sure do like they’re fresh approach.

As for NASCAR...I was actually hooked at a young age. My dad has been a fan as long as I can remember, and we all went to our first race at the 2000 Coca-Cola 600, the first victory for Matt Kenseth.
Dad’s gone to a few more since then, and I’d say I have made the most of my opportunities to go.

I got to co-anchor with my good friend Thema Ponton a few weeks ago, but I don’t know how many people saw that.
Patricia and I would make a dynamic duo, I am sure....and Melissa...she certainly brightens up any newscast!

But I did the weekends for a couple years...and I enjoyed it, but when the chance to move to Monday through Friday came around right about the time I got married...I couldn’t turn it down!

Oh, and FEAR THE TURTLE! ACC all the way!

Look at how Fox Charlotte is ranked in their market though, terribly.  However, if the big bosses at the F-O-X say to wear it, then you have to jump how high.  We understand.  We really just go into depth in class about everything and break down each newscast.  It’s really pretty good.  If you want some further tips, I’d be happy to shair them with you.  Not at all telling you how to do you’re job, you’re already great!  I never got to see you on the weekends, but I can’t blame you for switching.

A true love is always worth more than gold.  That’s what my grandfather has always told me.  And you seem to never forget where you came from (as Maryland is basically thrown into all your blogs, I can’t blame you, I try to throw in Hartsvegas whenever I can.  Our teacher said you started in lumberton and worked your way on up!  Thats exactly what everyoen keeps telling us, is just to start at the bottom and hard woark will always get you there!!  And of course you must have worked hard or you wouldn’t be at the great position your at today.  What’s next?!

Where is this class? College? High school?

I spoke to a class at Coker a couple times, which was great.

Fashion tips in this business come from every corner...and I try to go with the flow.

Yes, yes, start at the bottom. I was fortunate to score a job with a TV station less than two months after I graduated school, and I have worked my way up since then. I continue to be fortunate in that the folks here at WBTW continue to give me great opportunities.

What do you want to do?
