Blogging the Outdoors: Finding the time to hunt

I thought Blogging the Outdoors would be a great opportunity for me to share with you readers some of my experiences, thoughts, and advice on everything outdoors. You know, like hunting, fishing, camping, etc. Well.........I'm still going to write about all those things but now I need to write about something else that happens outdoors and has totally taken up all of my late season fishing and early season hunting time! Fast-pitch softball and flag football are very time consuming. I volunteered to coach my 11 year old daughter's softball team this fall and my 6 year old son is enjoying his first year of flag football. Between softball practice/games and flag football practice/games, I sometimes don't know if I am coming or going! Not to mention the fact I have an 8 year old daughter who needs daddy's attention too. Uh, and the wife! My friends will tell you that I love to hunt and fish, but they'll also tell you I truly love my family. As much as I would've liked to been in a deer stand in September and October, I wouldn't trade the great time I've had at the ball fields for anything in the world. My kids will only be this age once. I am truly thankful that I have been blessed to have such loving children. Many of my friends work swing shift jobs and can't attend much less coach their kid's ball teams, so I'm not complaining.

I did manage to hit the woods this past Monday afternoon though with my son Nick and his friend Brady. Around dark-thirty (too late to shoot) we saw three deer eating over a corn pile. We didn't shoot, the kid's weren't dissapointed, nor was I. We just enjoyed the experience.

The fall ball season comes to a close next Thursday. That's when we can put away the balls and bats, pick up the rifles and hit the woods!
