Bill Tate gets the Boot
One of the most legendary head coaches in the state of South Carolina was not able to end his career at Timmonsville on his own terms. Last year's 3-8 season will not go down as Bill Tate's greatest, but a kick out the door seems a little uncalled for.Might he end up at South Florence? His house is three miles away and his wife is a counselor there. Should be interesting to see what happens next. One thing we know for sure - he's not done coaching yet.
Here is the full text of an email from the Dr. Brenda McCants, superintendent of Florence District 4:
After twenty-eight years in the district, Mr. William Tate retired seven years ago on January 1, 2001. He continued to work in FCSD4 for five years in the Teacher and Employment Retiree Incentive (TERI) program. When his TERI term ended on December 31, 2005, he received Letters of Agreement to serve for two years as the alternative school supervisor and head football coach. He served this past year as an independent contractor in the position of head football coach.
We certainly thank Coach Tate for thirty-five years of dedicated service to the football program in Florence County School District Four (FCSD4). We wish him success in his future endeavors. His contributions will long be remembered.
Bertha W. McCants, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Florence County School District Four
What do you think about Coach Tate's dismissal?

I actually think it was wrong to get the axe like that. He deserves better treatment than that. I dont know Bill but from what I seen and read he sound like a coachin legend. This same matter happen to Coach Steve Smith(Latta) a few years ago. Hopefully a guy with his resume get a nice coaching job somewhere. I read where Brian Lane stated he leavin the SF job in good shape. Maybe GOD sent a sign!
