Biker bar owners respond to talk of ending the bike rallies

As you'd expect, long-time Horry County biker establishments don't want to see the spring motorcycle rallies end. In fact, Jimmy Motley, owner of the original SBB biker bar in murrells inlet, told me today he doesn't think they'll ever get rid of the rallies. They being "the city of Myrtle Beach."

He says even if the city keeps all motorcycle-related vending out of the Myrtle Beach area, he believes Horry County will not make any changes.

Motley also told me he's decided to form a committee and raise a million dollars to fight the city of Myrtle Beach. Motley says if the city can increase taxes to raise a million dollars to get rid of the rallies, then he can raise the same amount and fight back. He told me he'll use the money for a nationwide media campaign to to tell others about the unruly behavior of other tourists. He cited incidents from Senior Week, and all summer long.

What the hell is up with MB? Why bite the hand that feeds you? Get rid of the Bike Weeks. Get rid of Senior week. Let’s run the Canadians off too. Ugly people. Ugly people don’t need to be on the beach. Get rid of them. Bunch of whiney babies. If you don’t like bike week, stay in the house.

Bike Weeks are loud, rude, a haven for crime, and cost the city much more money than most people know. Get rid of BOTH bike weeks and bring back the families that WANT to visit but wont during those weeks because of the reasons I mentioned above.

I think the city dove on this idea as just another reason to raise taxes..

Once the bikers are gone..the Canadians are gone..and all of the ugly people are gone..

..they will find someone else to pick on..until Turtle Beach South Carolina is a ghost town..

Loud..rude..and costs the city money...that could describe any of the city’s firetrucks as well..will be getting rid of those too?

Dont fool yourself...both Bike Weeks will remain there..and locals will just have to deal with it..get ear plugs..take your vacation during bike weeks...or simply relocate to a retirement home and be done with it already..

..or just do like me and Mookie...DRINK MORE BEER! smile

yep, run em all out, I can’t drink all the beer by myself. Damn sure don’t want to be around a bunch of dead beat whiners myself. But anyway bet you didn’t know that most bikers actually make more money than your golferrrrr buddies are generally better educated more common sense per capita. Can’t tell you which ones because obviously your perception is devised solely from the 60’s era. Try something different instead of stereotyping , look around, talk to a few of these “bad elements”. I’ll bet you’ll be surprised to find out about all the do to support their communities as well as various charities. So before you present your unsubstaintiated claim of all the “bad bikers” I stongly suggest you get your facts right!@#$*!!

Yeah boy..the druggies..rapists and murderers can stay..but them bikers is gotta go...they cost us too much money..

I’d think the only money they cost the area is by added law enforcement…

I’m almost 100% sure the bikers didnt request that...some goober down at city hall thought that up all on his own..

I hate to break it to you Local1..but there was already plenty of crime there before the bikers rolled into town..the crime rate actually drops during the Harley rally..

Do you seriously think that just because someone down at city hall says bike week no longer exists..that it will stop any of us from rolling up on a Hawg at any given time? As long as South Carolina slaps a license plate on a bike..count on it..we will be there...and when we get there...we are gonna be loud...wink

Anyone who says crime is not a HUGE problem during both bike weeks is an idiot. Look in the newspaper the week after, they were so bad they actually posted to %’s from last year and this year to compare. My family has plenty of nice people that ride or have in the past, I do not play golf as you were “sterotyping” me (something you accused me of), and I am an educated, hard working local who just wants to get to and from work without hours EXTRA traffic OH...and I’d really like for my kid to not have to look at someone bare a$$ while he is on the school bus again. I can only HOPE they find a way to nd both bike weeks and I really don’t care if anyone agrees with me or not.

Being an idiot has it’s advantages..I get a break on my taxes for it..Hey how’s that tax thing working out for you?..

So you have this massive crime wave blow into town...HUGE problem...yet all you mention is your getting to and from work without all the extra traffic and your kid getting to see a bare ass while he is on the school bus…

He can see worse than that on TV these days..I saw Shrek’s bare green ass last night..as offended as I was..I still dont wanna cancel cartoons ...wink

I have to appreciate the city’s way of thinking tho..you complain about the biker problem so they raise your taxes..While you are out there earning that extra tax money...you have less time to complain...problem solved...wink

I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one. I am concerned about the things I have to experience during these times. Of course I do not think all bikers are bad. However, when most bikers come for bike week they are in full party mode and many had no respect for our city or it’s people. This goes for both bike weeks. This past bike week I saw public nudity, 2 bikers humping behind a building during the day as I took my in-laws to eat breakfast, drug dealing, many traffic accidents, (causing major traffic problems) and the noise is really bad when you are trying to sleep or put your kids to bed. These are NOT positive or petty when you live here. If you want to take my issues and compare them with silly things such as cartoons, you go ahead, just proving my “idiot” comment. If SC wants to get rid of all the hassle of bike week they should just make it a law to wear a helmet....There PROBLEM SOLVED. The real idiots of bike week come here partly because we have no helmet law.

Now there you go making out that being an idiot is a bad thing..it is actually kinda nice and often times can even be considered cute..

I grew up on Panama City Beach in Florida..so there isnt much that you can tell me about beach life..down there the problem was Spring Break and all the problems that come with it...traffic..drunk teens..crime..and behavior that wouldnt be considered decent..even the noise..

All of the complaining in the world didnt make it go away...you see the whole idea behind a tourist trap...well..is to trap tourists and get them to spend their money in that area…

As of now the only thing you have accomplished by complaining is get your taxes raised and you will still have to deal with bikers..

Many areas that have bike rallies have helmet laws...you think they have less problems?

You sure do like to toss that “idiot” word around alot...I find your name calling somewhat silly..so it is starting to look like you and I have alot more in common than you think..

I don’t own a bike although I enjoy visiting
Myrtle Beach SC,especially during Bike Week.
So don’t stop the beach fun.
Problems are every where during that time of year so hire more police officers and enjoy life.

Well, just for the humor ,I hope to see some of these people at this meeting, whenever it is scheduled. I don’t agree with the mentions of children being subjected to nudity, but then again if it were my child I wouldn’t have them around this type of potential environment and a respectable parent wouldn’t either. I think Moron is more appropriate than idiot . Kind of ,if you know, or even suspect ,why would you take your kids there ...can I say dah… give me a break .Different strokes for different folks .Bikers are more fun and your probably just jealous because you didn’t actually get to see that ass and your kid did, ha ha , .So get snow -balled by your local polititians as they prepare to rape you for more money to line their pockets and give you less. Take away the revenue generated by bike week and you will see. How much for those dying buisness’s that don’t recognise bikers, I’m sure I can find a buyer

Oh wow - this is emotional on all parts.  I remember when Bike Week began - Myrtle Beach residents wanted it, really begged for it or should I say the funds it generated.  No one stopped to see the problems that are also generated anytime you have alot of people (bikers, graduates, seniors, etc.) in one area.  I enjoy sitting on the porch and watching the bikes go by when I am at the beach.  I enjoy talking with and enjoying the company of bikers as well as many others.  This is not so much the issue as the different morals that are displayed.  I became upset one time at bikers week when a couple stopped and had sex in front of our porch on a car, in the day light for all to see.  Needless to say their friends cheered them on.  Yet a month or so later I saw the same thing with some young people in the beach water.  As far as crime issues well yeah - the more people the more crime.  The city was prepared to spend the funds but was not prepared to spend them on the area needed - supervision, law enforcement, travel issues, etc.  How about hiring some of the bikers to relay problem areas to law enforcement?  The bikers are here and they want to enjoy themselves and not have trouble either.  Bike week should stay - the people enjoy it - the city should get more law enforcement, emergency staff, and work for a beltline interstate that would allow better travel for locals to get to work.  A problem yes but there is solutions if all would work together and stop pointing fingers.

There certainly are numerous solutions, limited only to the mentality of those with the remedy.total abolishment is certainly not the answer. It would be nice if some of these people would utilize more accurate elements when they compile their statistics though. It discusts me when all the bikers are labled for all the bad things and never recognized for the charitable causes. I am wondering which Myrtle Beach political figure endorsed the permits for this Pride [Gay Fest] they have scheduled this weekend ????? very interesting
