Big Storms
Wednesday evening's thunderstorms formed along a cold front and the seabreeze and moved slowly westward. Because it got so hot on Wednesday, some of the storms because severe, particularly the storm that formed east of Lumberton and moved west and northwestward through Robeson County and through Scotland County. This storm downed trees and caused power outages in Laurinburg.By Thursday evening, the cold front was gone, and it was not as hot, but we still had a few showers and thundershowers that formed along the seabreeze. I tracked these storms as they moved through Florence during the 6pm news, and at the time, they were not much more that a brief downpour. Some heavier thunderstorms were down near Olanta and Timmonsville, but these were not severe. As these smaller thunderstorms continued westward, one of them pulsed up and dumped a downburst of heavy rain, dime-sized hail and strong winds on Lydia, west of Hartsville in Darlington County. Numerous trees were downed and a cell tower was blown over. This storm quickly dissapated, and the damage in Lydia was an isolated event. Here are some of the pics of the damage:
