Back in the day… like three years ago
When I first got my little Scion tC, three years ago, I remember it only cost $25 to fill it up. The last time I went to the pump I put 10 bucks in my car, I only got a fourth of a tank of gas. This means the next time I'm on empty and go to fill up, it's going to cost me $40. That's an additional five dollars for each year I've had my car.I'm sure I've lost a little gas mileage in the three years that I've owned the car, but I do try to keep it well maintained with oil changes and tire rotations.... all that good stuff. I just find it amazing how much gas prices have raised in the recent years, and with signs of it only raising more as time passes.
Before I had my tC, I had a 2001 Dodge Neon. When I first got the car it only took me 13 bucks to fill it up on E! In the short time I had it, I saw the fill up price climb from $13 to $22.
When I was in high school, I had a 1994 Camaro. I would put 3 dollars in the tank and that would get me to school and back for at least two days... and I was raised in WV, so I didn't live close to the school at all.
Now, I've heard all of my parent's stories and my grandparent's stories about what this and that cost in their time, but this is my time. Just because you had to pay this and that when you were my age doesn't make it any different for me. It is still frustrating to pay a certain price then to see it shoot up, no matter what your age is or what time period it was.
My mom has told me about how she could get a Coke, candy bar and a bag of chips for 25 cents when she was a kid. It was the poke (brown bag) special or something like that. Well, I remember when I could get a Snickers for 50 cents just five or six years ago, but now their priced anywhere from 99 cents to $1.39. That is unless you go to Walmart to buy a single candy bar. Their like 60 cents there.
I remember when I could get a bottle of Pepsi for 99 cents in a gas station, but now it costs $1.39 or more. I can also remember when a bottle of Pepsi was 75 cents in vending machines, but now it's a buck or more.
Now, I don't pretend to not know why all of these things have happened. I'm just saying it's really frustrating and kind of gets hard to survive when everything raises, but you still get paid the same. Not that I'm complaining about my pay or anything like that.
Also, when did it become a rule that all stores have to have receipts a mile long? I don't care about some survey you have online that will put me in a drawing where I may have a chance to win a $2500 shopping spree at your store. I don't care about some give-away that I know I will never win. All I want is for you to show me what I bought and how much tax I paid.
I've noticed for the past two or three months that when I buy something from Walmart, they have these huge receipts now. I could buy a pack of gum and get a receipt that is a mile long at Walmart. It's really annoying to keep up with the receipts so you can balance your account when you have just a few receipts that go one forever and only have a couple of products you bought on them.
Anyway, those are the things that are on my mind right now, so I wanted to blog about them. Later!
