Anyone have some Kryptonite in their golf bag?
What planet, exactly, does Tiger Woods come from?Who comes back after eight months away from the competitive aspect of golf, rips a 301-yard fairway drive on his first shot, quickly goes up two holes with a birdie and a conceded eagle and never looks back in a 3 and 2 win?
Tiger Woods does.
Of course he does. Should we really have expected anything less?
It remains to be seen whether Tiger will win the Accenture Match Play Championship. He’s got what could be a stiff test today against South African Tim Clark, although Woods spanked him 5 and 4 two years ago in this event.
But watching Woods in his return on Wednesday was a thing of beauty for those who follow this game.
Sure, he hit a couple of wayward shots. Probably missed a putt or two he thought he should make. But he didn’t look like a guy who hadn’t played a tournament in eight months. He looked like a guy who hadn’t played since, oh, Tuesday.
Even though he’s been practicing hard for several weeks, you still expect to see some rust somewhere once a player gets back into competitive play.
But there was none.
With his stronger, surgically reconstructed knee, there was only a smoother, more stable golf swing than we’ve seen from Tiger in a long time.
Just what the rest of the players on tour wanted to see, I’m sure.
