Activists at Five Points and other annoying habits
I know many of you know exactly what I am talking about. The various groups that set up shop at Five Points to peddle their cause in Florence and block traffic while they mostly just annoy drivers trying to get to a destination.A couple of weeks ago, I was driving through town and when I came to my turn at Five Points, I noticed that there was a traffic back up in the opposing lane. I looked a little longer and realized that one of the "Boot Holders" was standing in the middle of the lane and would not move to let traffic go through. How frustrating that had to be for the people who were just trying to get to where they were going. But the police were no where to be found. I went back through that same intersection a few hours later and the same group of people was still there, blocking traffic and annoying people. Now bear in mind, I am not complaining about when firemen do this. They know to observe certain rules of polite society and not stand in front of the car and nag when a person does not want to be bothered. Also, their organization is easily identifiable, can be checked for authenticity quickly so you know you're not simply lining someone else's pocket with your own hard earned cash.
Today, as I waited at Five Points, I was accosted by another kind of group. The abortion rights people who push baby dolls in strollers and wave placards that say things like "Abortion is murder." The man who was waving the sign nearest me came close enough to my car to frighten me and waved his sign directly over my windshield. As I shook my head no, that I was no interested in speaking with him, he appeared to snarl at me then move on. Why is it that people who have strong opinions about a topic tend to feel the need to force those opinions on others? I know many of you are probably wondering right now where I stand on the issue. You might be surprised by my views on abortion, but I choose not to discuss them, since they belong to me and me alone. So what about you? Which group at Five Points drives you the most insane? You got quite a few to pick from.
