A special “green” Radiohead performance
Radiohead, an English band you just might have heard of, will be the musical guest on NBC's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" tonight (April 23), but not in the traditional sense.Instead of the corporeal band filling the studio with their electronic-imbibed rock, the band has recorded a performance of "House of Cards," from their new album, "In Rainbows," that will be broadcast during Conan. They're doing this as part of NBC's week of observance of Earth Day, which actually took place April 22.
So, instead of having the band travel to New York City when its U.S. tour doesn't begin until May 5 in West Palm Beach, Fla., they taped the exclusive "green" performance instead. They've been quite fond of recording peformances lately, such as the "Scotch Mist" webcast from late December '07.
Radiohead is also pretty serious about going green. The band encourages fans to ride public transportation and carpool to shows during its upcoming tour. Although the band is coming to the States first, then going back to Europe and returning for a second U.S. jaunt, I'm sure scheduling logistics are to blame -- they seem like the type of people who'd hit all the locales in one visit if they could.
