A More Efficient Cow

Scientists in Australia have found some cows that require less food. The reason that I am blogging about this here is because these cows also burp less than normal cows, and release less methane into the atmosphere.
Methane is a greenhouse gas, and livestock produce lots of methane. While not getting the publicity that carbon dioxide gets, methane is an important greenhouse gas that many scientists believe contribute to the rise in global temperature.
The scientists are still studying the more efficient cows, and hope to breed the nation’s herd to produce more of these cows and steers. This will not only save money for farmers (the cows will require less feed), but will also help save the atmosphere. It is estimated that a more efficient herd could reduce methane emissions by 600,000 tons over 25 years.
