Bumpy Rides

Hurricane Hunters have been flying into hurricanes for 50 years. They have gathered information that has lead to a better understanding of the dangerous storms, but flying into hurricanes is dangerous, and there have been some bumpy rides.

Record High, Record Low

Ten years in Oklahoma and Texas has made it hard for me to get this historic weather anniversary out of my brain. A wild weather event happened on November 11, 1911 (11/11/11).

Far from a computer nerd

I have never been much of a computer junkie.  I have no clue how this box on my desk works.  Quite frankly, I am surprised it does.  I stayed far away from the computer programming classes offered in college for a reason.  However, I was forced to take computer keyboarding in high school- which I was convinced was the biggest waste of my time ever.  But now I use a computer every day and couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Arachnophobia

Weather monitoring equipment needs to be maintained in order to function properly. Rain guages are particularly vunerable to mud, rust, hail, and insects. In San Angelo, TX they have a problem with spiders.

Why not “fall back” on Sunday night?

As you are aware by now, daylight saving time was extended a week in an effort to save energy.  Well, why don’t we save even more energy by moving it back another 24 hours to Monday morning at 2am?

Reflecting on Ocean Isle

I was never a student at South Carolina or Clemson.  I am not a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.  I have never met any of the students that lost their lives in Ocean Isle Beach Sunday morning.  But I know that I am not alone in sharing grief and sorrow over such a tragic fire.  Seeing the video of what is left of a beach house that formerly held happy memories makes me emotional.  Four days later and I like everyone else am still wondering why this happened.  The results from the investigation seem rather irrelevant.  It doesn’t matter what started the fire.  It never should have happened.
