The Carolina Panthers announced a couple moves Wednesday that prove they’re not only refusing to move forward, they’re going backward.
Carolina let go of last year’s botched quarterback signee David Carr after one horrific season — seriously, the Panthers were more comfortable handing the offense to 44-year-old Vinny Testaverde than this guy.
That move’s understandable, but combined with the re-signing of former star receiver Muhsin Muhammad, the Panthers are looking more 2004 than 2008.
I’m not a golf fan.
I’ve never played the game — unless you counting hitting a few balls on the course behind a friend’s home when I was a kid.
And I don’t really intend to ever play the game — there are just too many other things to invest my time and money into.
But today at the office, I found myself turning the TV to The Golf Channel.
I’m not here to talk about the past.
At least, not the recent past.
When it comes to Major League Baseball, I’m sick of it.
I sat down for Super Bowl XLII without a rooting interest.
I hate the Giants.
I’m tired of the Patriots.
And, like most people, I was pretty much convinced New England was going to win.
Sunday’s Super Bowl isn’t quite Ravens-Giants or Bucs-Raiders territory, but it’s a little too close for my liking.
Like a billion or so other people, every year I sit down to watch the biggest sporting event around.
Being an Eagles fan by birth and a Panthers fan by relocation, I’ve only had a couple of chances to actually cheer “my team” on in 20 years of watching football. So I pick a team to root for.
Three weeks ago, I was on top of the fantasy football world. Coming off my best week of the season, my Morning News Football League team, the Reese’s Pieces, was 5-1 and leading the division.
Now, I’m coming off three losses, and I’m in danger of falling out of a playoff spot.
It’s a rough year for first-round picks in fantasy football, and the MNFL, our league here at the Morning News, is no exception.
We have 14 teams, and I’d say 11 of our owners are cursing the day their top picks were drafted.
I’d like to thank my sports editor, Sam Bundy—not for anything job-related, but for playing Marc Bulger over Brett Favre.
Thanks to that decision, I won last week’s game in the Morning News Football League, a fantasy football league made up mostly of current and former Morning News employees we’re in.
