Ambulance chasing…literally

A few weeks ago a call came over the police scanner about someone stealing an ambulance from McLeod and leading police on a chase.  So I grabbed my camera and ran out the door only to find the wrecked ambulance and the suspect already arrested.  Luckily they brought him back to an area closer to McLeod while they investigated what happened.  Originally, because he was a patient at McLeod, it was unknown whether he would be charged or not.  Last week he was, so now I am able to run his photo and name.  I love this photo because you can make out the ambulance on the tow truck in the background as the suspect sits in the back seat of the patrol car.

Suspect Jeremy Dunmore sits in the back of a Florence Police Department patrol car after he allegedly walked out of McLeod and drove off in an idling Darlington County EMS ambulance on Thursday, September 18, 2008. The suspect hit two other vehicles, including a second ambulance and led law enforcement on a short chase before being apprehended.

Fun in the studio

Snapped this shot of Rebecca helping me out during a photo illustration shoot for antibiotics.  I wanted it to be a pair of hands tossing out a bunch of pill bottles.  It gets so hot in our studio under those lights and I had my head and arms crammed in this tube.  She kept laughing at me so a took a picture.

Soccer shot on goal

Here is a shot I got while taking photos of FMUs goalie’s running through drills at practice.  Surprisingly I didn’t get hit by a single soccer ball!

Ummmm….

Here’s a photo I snapped during a high school football practice last week.  I wasn’t going to post this picture but my coworkers convinced me I should.  First word that comes to my mind….UNBELIEVABLE.  What’s even sadder?  There were TWO coaches chainsmoking, on the field, throughout practice.

A motorist passes the scene of a deadly accident as a S.C. State Trooper stands over a motorcycle on the I-20 on ramp from I-95 in Florence on Tuesday, October 7, 2008.  The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The wonders of shooting football in a well-lit stadium…

I compare shooting high school football to trying to take a picture inside a black hole.  The lighting is so beyond inadequate for action shots I cannot even describe the frustrations experienced on the field.  UNTIL NOW.  Both Florence Christian Academy and Darlington High School have built new stadiums with AWESOME lighting.  Granted it’s not as good as an afternoon game, but it’s as close as any photographer can hope to get for high school football.  The endzones are always incredibly dark compared to the rest of the field and I snagged this shot of an interception in the endzone with the light highliting the players.  I ran a shot I took a split second before this one in the paper, so I thought I’d share a close up version here.

Florence Christian junior Matthew Jepertinger (84) tries to catch a pass while under pressure from Dillon senior Josh Funderburk (8) and junior Kyle Johnson (6) during the Eagles game against the Warriors in Florence on Friday, September 26, 2008.

Thought I’d share…

While waiting for the Florence County Planning Commission meeting to begin, I took a picture of King Lowery lost in thought as he read over some paperwork.  I love the facial expression and thought I’d share!

My Johnsonville Safari

On assignment in Johnsonville I got to spend an hour or so on 500 acres of property owned by Randy Stone.  It was amazing!!  His property is fenced in and he has deer, sheep, buffalo and African watusi.  Unfortunately, gigantic mosquitoes (the size of my thumbnail!) that should have been featured in Jurassic Park made it next to impossible to get out of the car for longer than thirty seconds!

Psorophora ciliata: It is the largest blood sucking mosquito in the U.S. Commonly referred to as the “Shaggy-legged” Gallinipper. It is easy to identify by its large size and it inflicts a painful bite. Rarely found in large numbers. The larvae are large and are predacious upon other larvae. (According to the Galveston County Mosquito Control District in Texas Web site.)

Ankole-Watusi cattle are a breed of cattle native to Africa. They have very large, distinctive horns similar to a Texas Longhorn. They are sometimes known as Ankole or Watusi. (According to Wikipedia.)

The Texas White Dall Ram is from the United States, Texas.  The ram looks similar to the white Alaskan Dall ram.  The color of the Texas Dall can range from a milky white to a dull creamy white or peach color.  A mature ram will weigh 130 pounds. (According to http://www.bowhuntingnorthamerica.com.)

Tiger Cubs

While shooting the South Florence/Wilson football game at Memorial stadium in Florence last night, these three little kids on the Wilson side got up on their tiptoes and kept peeking at me when they saw the camera…thought it was a cute moment, so I thought I’d share.

Sunset on a New Beginning

Members of the Darlington High School Marching Band run on the track at the school’s new football stadium on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.  The new stadium is directly behind the school.
